What, Exactly, Are Mages?
What is a Magi?
Among the human race there is a select few with a talent that allows them to cast spells and summon spirits to do their bidding, those select few are named Magi. Magi or better known as the Mage are normal humans with gifted abilities to manipulate a force of nature called: Prana. Prana is the life force of all things spiritual and magical. For the Magi, Prana is the very fuel that keeps their power flowing and active.
By manipulating Prana, a Mage can cast spells of one of the five elemental types. Those types being of: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth and Ether. A Mage can cast these spells by spending Prana as its energy source, as such there are costs for their spells as well as other things that they use Prana for, such as Servants. For a mage, spending their prana and summoning spirit helpers is something they will do often, especially for when the Grail Wars occur.
Mage’s stereotypically only care about two things, one is about how powerful the magic is that’s running through your veins. This entitles more power to a mage, allowing them to become much more famous as well as so much more power and fame to their own name as well as their family name. The other thing is the training that is required in order to make the mages stronger and bring out the their potential. This by itself is rather important for a mage who has high levels of potential magical power, thus they would spend hours apon hours in training just to awaken their abilities and work on their magic.
A mage starts out with one of the elements as its main and primary magical power and list of spells. As a Mage grows in power, they should be able to control and begin to be able to access other elemental spells in order to help them grow in their abilities. Most mages can and should be able to summon a Servant when they are in need of them, this will only apply to those who are currently in a Grail War or joining a new freshly started one.
A Mage has what is called a Magical Crest, It is a simple thing that they are adapted to from birth in order to harness their raw magical energy that flows through their blood veins. A Magical crest also dictates what element they would start out with, allowing them to train on that specific element once they learn what element they were given from birth. A Magical crest can be changed, but only through most likely very painful and quite possibly fatal ways, this is something that is not suggested to all Magi.
