Faction | The Church

The Catholic Church; ever since Constantine converted the Holy Roman Empire to Christianity, the Catholic church and the pope have held heavy sway over world events. Even after so much has changed, today a full 11% of the world considers themselves to be Catholic.

As such, it should be no surprise that such a huge group of people should be interested in all the world’s affairs, especially when there is a hugely powerful “gift from god” that is being summoned in Japan every century or so. Since the early days of the Holy Grail war, the church has acted as the intermediaries of the Holy Grail, to protect those who can’t protect themselves after they have lost their servant.

However, what people don’t know about the church is that they aren’t simple umpires in this world-shaping battle royale. Though rarely used, the church employs certain people known as templars when the church itself desires to obtain the grail.

Though they often send normal representatives to manipulate games and to get the desired winner (such as Kirei Kotomine), these templars are a lot more aggressive and a lot less subtle. Typically, those who come across a templar do not have the chance to tell anyone about it, hence the lack of public knowledge of these holy warriors.

Currently led by Pope Jean-Luke, the church itself has recently allied with the Mage Afssociation in an attempt to bring a world in chaos back to some sort of order after the destruction of Fuyuki. However, with the pope stuck in the vatican, he has two men act as his emissaries. A man widely rumored to be his servant, Cardinal Armand Richelieu, and his most senior templar, Grand Master Santiago Valentino

Anyone who were to attempt to launch an attack on this bastion of holy righteousness wouldn't simply have to pit themselves against not only millions of people, but an entire order of magically trained warriors, and a man rumored to be the most powerful servant yet found in the world.
